Hi my lovely (tita) readers!
I just thought that this might come in handy for you guys in the future. This is a brief story on how I got my first check book! Haha *insert tita moment here
For personal reasons (rental reasons) I need a checking account because I have to release post dates checks as soon as possible.
So what are the requirements when you want to open a checking account? Usually banks would require you to have atleast 3-6 months savings account with them and a certain maintaining balance.
I asked my boyfriend to inquire with BDO since he’s been a depositor all his life there (incase di ako makakuha ng check on my own) I don’t know if this is their legit policy but he was told that tho he’s been a depositor for years, he still needs about 6 months more to get approved for the checking account and he needs a maintaining balance of 50,000 for it. So uhm NO. EKIS.
Moving on, I called other banks (not top leading banks) and still same answer, 3-6 mos with maintaining balance ranging from 5,000 and up. OKAY with maintaining balance requirement but 3-6 months? Naaahh *crying already
Good thing my friend told me to try BPI.
I have been a BPI depositor since college days but I didn’t bother to inquire anymore because I thought they have the similar tedious policy like BDO’s. Lesson learned. WAG ASSUMERA. Hahaha
I went with the nearest BPI and tried my luck, and taddaaa! If you have all the requirements, you should get your own check book in about an hour!
1.Must have a SAVINGS account with BPI (not sure how long). Of course they also would require you to open up first a savings account with them, since I’ve been their depositor for years, this wasn’t an issue at all.
2. 2 valid government issued ID’s. I just presented my passport (they said it would suffice already since it’s a primary ID already).
3. Contract of Lease. Since my reason for the checking account is for rental purposes, they asked me for the contract of lease of the property.
4. One Recent Proof of Billing. Meralco, water bills, phone bills etc.
5. 2pcs 1×1 Picture
6. P10,000 maintaining balance + P175 for the check book
After filling up the forms and completing the requirements, I now have my first ever checking account and my own check book! Same day!
Hahaha makes me want to say “Here’s a blank check, name your price” CHERET. Hahaha
Quick story: The one who assisted me through the process is also my follower on Instagram! I mean how cool is that?
Ate BPI: lipat na kayo ma’am?
Me: No ate dito parin kasi May salon business ako jan sa kabilang building
Ate BPI: Oo nga ma’am eh nakikita ko sa IG.
If ever you’re reading this, I love you ate BPI! ❤️
Disclaimer: Wala po ako nilabag na batas ha. Haha I don’t know if that’s all their rules and procedure. I’m just sharing my experience. Also this is not sponsored or anything. But to make sure call them or visit the nearest branch
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you have tried applying for a checking account. I’d love how to know how it worked out for you! Some tips in the comment section would also be nice!
Happy New Year!
